Erin's Law:
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Ohio SB 288, Erin's Law, requires traditional public schools, community schools, and STEM schools to train students and staff on age appropriate child sexual abuse and sexual violence beginning in the 2024-2025 school year. Specifically, our district is required to provide students in grades K-5 developmentally appropriate instruction in child sexual abuse prevention. Further, the district is also required to provide students in 6-12 with developmentally appropriate instruction in dating violence and sexual violence prevention.
The Carey Local Schools respects the rights of parents and guardians to make decisions regarding their child's education. As such, and upon request, you may examine the materials associated with your child's instruction in child sexual abuse prevention as part of the district's health education program.
Please contact Mr. Kozel, the K-8 counselor at skozel@careyevs.org, or you can go to FightChildAbuse.org, SpeakUp.org.
Opt-out Option
Please note, upon written request, your child may be excused from receiving instruction in child sexual abuse prevention. If you wish to excuse your child, please submit a note to your child's teacher by October 10, 2024.
The program will start the week of October 14, 2024 and will consist of two lessons; one taught in the fall and a booster lesson in the spring.
